Production of brushes

Do you know what technology and material were used to manufacture your art brush?

Most of you would think that production of brushes is a fully automatized process. The opposite is true!

Each brush is actually an original, a unique hand assembled item. To be manufactured a brush requests a high amount of hand skills.

The proper amount of material is pinched off manually from a bundle of hair. It is then inserted into a forming ferrule, where a required shape of hair is achieved by tapping. The created head is withdrawn from the ferrule, inserted in a plug and tapped to the required visible length. After glue hardening, which depends on the type of glue and usually lasts from 24 to 48 hours, the head in the plug is cleaned with a comb. This is followed by fixing a wooden handle and moulding a joint between the plug and the handle which is done on a pneumatic press. The next step is labelling the brush with the size and the company logo on the handle. Subsequently a thorough quality control assesses all particular operations and eliminates potential imperfections.

Our products are exclusively manufactured from natural animal-hair and bristle, handles are made of wood, we only use human health friendly paints. Great attention is paid to the choice of materials.

The most frequently used materials are:

  • for manufacturing school brushes – pony-hair and treated bristle of a Chinese pig
  • for manufacturing art brushes – bristle of a Chinese pig, marten, bovine ear hair, polecat, squirrel, badger, goat´s hair, synthetic ´toray´, various mixtures of hair
